Barnes Healthcare Services Retail Pharmacy Internship - Valdosta, Georgia in Valdosta, Georgia

The Pharmacy Intern is an entry-level position and duties are designed to develop a knowledge base and competency level while performing pharmacy functions under the direct supervision of a clinical pharmacist. Functions performed as an intern include, but are not limited to: interdisciplinary patient care, medication counseling and patient education, drug information, drug dosing, drug preparation, and drug distribution.

  • Performs duties as assigned and supervised by the pharmacist in accordance with Barnes standard operating procedures for entering, third party processing, filling, and dispensing prescriptions.

  • Assists pharmacists and other healthcare providers in delivering patient care and services that are within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns including patient counseling and other health services (i.e. blood pressure, medication therapy management).

  • Responsible and accountable for registering all related sales on the assigned cash register, collects and handles cash as required. Takes customers to the OTC aisle when possible to assist in locating products.

  • Assists and supports the Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, such as, ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals. Maintains knowledge of Company asset protection techniques, and files claims for warehouse overages (merchandise received, but not billed), shortages (merchandise billed, but not received), order errors, or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.

  • Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer issues and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience.

  • Assists pharmacists with Medication Therapy Management platforms, Healthy at Home consults, and diabetes/wellness education

  • Meets expectations for customer/patient satisfaction and anticipates customer/patient needs

  • Utilizes appropriate communication lines in relaying problems, concerns, questions, and ideas

Qualifications

  • Competent with company used computer, telephone, and partner programs, where applicable (i.e. Microsoft Office, Paycom, RX30, CPR+)

  • Effective written and oral communication skills

  • Completes continuing education and training as assigned

  • Appropriate immunizations and current TB screen (as required by policy)

  • Hepatitis B vaccine or signed waiver

  • Other state-required health tests allowable by law
