Cherokee Nation Pharmacy Technician in Tahlequah, Oklahoma
Assists pharmacists in preparing prescriptions written by a practitioner. Notes practitioner's orders concerning lab order, PAP's; return visits, and last medication orders. Notes patent's compliance, labels medication, makes many nontechnical judgmental decisions, pre-packs medications for dispensing man, and maintains daily logs. Calculates medication dose for pediatric patients.
Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Transcribes providers' medication instructions into a pharmacy medication label, attaching the label with correct medication and amount. Reviews charts to ensure patient compliance with providers' instructions. Conducts monthly medication orders and prepares off-schedule orders. Maintains adequate supplies of prepackaged medications. Performs monthly nursing station inspection, infection control inspection, immunization summaries, expired drug report, and dental inspections. Mixes pharmaceutical preparations, fills bottles with prescribed tablets and capsules, and types labels for bottles. Assists pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medication. Receives and stores incoming supplies. Counts stock and enters data in computer to maintain inventory records. Processes records of medication and equipment dispensed to the customer or hospital patient, computes charges, and enters data in the computer. Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods. Adheres to professional ethical standards. Other duties may be assigned.
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
No additional experience is required.
An individual should have knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must be able to obtain a Pharmacy Technician Permit within 60 days of employment as a Pharmacy Technician as specified by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy and maintain BLS certification.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have a working knowledge of computers, calculators, and typewriters.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes, or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
