Childrens Hospital of The King's Daughters Pharmacy Operations Manager in Norfolk, Virginia
The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for managing the professional and operational activities of the pharmacy to ensure high quality, accurate, efficient and complete pharmacy services. The manager retains 24-hour responsibility, but may utilize supervisory staff to operationalize activities. The manager is expected to independently carry out assigned responsibilities but seeks guidance from the director and/or upper management given unusual or unanticipated circumstances that require deviation of policy/practice or allocation of funds to resolve. Reports to department leadership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintains overall responsibility for the daily planning, work scheduling and coordination, and operational performance of the Pharmacy department.
Provides administrative, regulatory and medication safety leadership and oversight.
Coordinates and supervises departmental activities to include but not limited to adherence to regulatory requirements, effective staffing levels to meet organizational demands, staff competence and medication safety.
Performs other duties as assigned.
LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
Must possess a Virginia Pharmacy License or be eligible for licensure within three months of hire
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Professional knowledge of areas of responsibility in order to direct planning and implementation at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy.
ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency or equivalent experience preferred.
Minimum of three years pharmacy practice / operational experience in an acute care hospital necessary.
Previous management and pediatric experience is desirable.
Must be able to plan, supervise and establish a professional working environment within areas of responsibility.
Besides managerial activities, must possess the ability to identify problems and implement solutions for operational and organizational issues.
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to direct and assign work to subordinates, explain hospital and department policies and procedures and communicate effectively with other professionals.
Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like.
