Position Description

The Metro Nashville Public Health Department (MPHD) is seeking an individual with a passion to assist the pharmacist in providing the best possible service concerning the preparation and packaging of their medications. Be part of the team that assists our pharmacist in preparing medications in the MPHD pharmacy.

This position will work will Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9:00AM to 3:00PM.

This position will work 19.5 hours per week and will not be eligible for benefits.

Typical Duties

  • Assists the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of crushing, packaging and dispensing medications in accordance with local, state, federal, and departmental regulations.

  • Completes weekly medication orders as written by the medical provider and verifies all associated paperwork.

  • Reviews the Medication Administration Record (MAR) for patients to ensure that the form is correct and the documentation of medications is done in a timely manner.

  • Enters prescription orders into the computer and prepares pharmacy inventory.

  • Maintains an awareness of developments in the community and pharmaceutical fields that relate to job responsibilities and integrates them into practice.

  • Provides directly observed therapy in the clinic and field.

  • Delivers of medications to the field for patient self-administration.

  • Assists the nurses in filing, faxing, and obtaining medical records as necessary.

  • Assists with clerical duties and registration, as needed.

  • Assists patients who are dropping off or picking up prescription orders.

  • Performs related duties as required.

  • Creates and updates patient’s health and insurance information, at point of sale.

  • Prepackages bulk medications.

  • Answers telephone calls for the pharmacist.

  • Communicates with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill authorization.

  • Maintains knowledge of loss prevention techniques.

  • Works with clinical staff in completing medication orders.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient, department, and organization information and follows HIPAA regulations.

  • Performs related duties as required.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of clerical experience including at least (1) 1 year as a Pharmacy Technician.

Registration with the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy.

Certification with the PTCB.

Valid driver’s license, use of personal vehicle, and maintenance of valid personal vehicle insurance as required by Tennessee Law.
