The Pharmacy Technician works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist and participates in the preparation and distribution of medications to inpatients, outpatients, and medical and hospital personnel in accordance to current hospital policies and in compliance with Federal and State regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Assembles patients’ medications to be sent to the nursing units following a check by a pharmacist.
Prepares intravenous medications and other sterile preparations under the direction of the pharmacist using aseptic technique and following department policy in the laminar airflow hood. Preparations include large volume I.V. solutions, TPN’s, IVPB’s, irrigations, syringes, epidural solutions, cardioplegia solutions, etc.
Prepares parenteral antineoplastic solutions or other potentially hazardous medications in the biological safety cabinet under the direction of a pharmacist.
Compounds and packages oral and topical drug preparations as required by the hospital inpatient population under the direction of a registered pharmacist. Preparations may include creams, ointments, irrigations, suspensions, liquids, etc.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid state Limited, or FullPharmacy Technician License.
Two years of experience as a pharmacytechnician.
Previous pharmacy experience or courses in pharmacycurriculum.
