Position Summary:

Plans, directs, coordinates, and leads the Community Pharmacy Program to achieve safe, efficient, and effective Infusion services including investigational drug services. Promote practice that achieves quality outcomes and medication safety that contribute to the overall success of COH Community sites. Accountable for infusion, clinical and research initiatives, and staff education to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Ensure appropriate use of medications to support a safe medication distribution system that meets all licensing and regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions:

Specific responsibilities include the oversight and leadership for Pharmacy clinical program development and operations, appropriate drug utilization, staff competency training and development, regulatory compliance for the investigational drug services, pertinent safety (CDPH, ISMP, FDA) and accreditation requirements (FACT, ASHP Residency), staff and student training/education; oversight and leadership of clinical and investigational initiatives in all disease site programs through affiliations with organizations such as NCCN, HOPA, ASH, ASCO, SWOG, COG to advance the clinical program and ensure that these initiatives meet the safety, quality and financial goals of the organization.

Infusion Services Program Management:

Develop, obtain approval, and achieve program goals; ensure appropriate use of medications; manage initiatives to plan and remain compliant with regulations and requirements governing safe and effective practice.

Quality and Compliance:

Ensure ongoing compliance with USP 797 and USP 800; work with leadership on incorporating any needed changes based on update of these standards; ensure ongoing competency of Pharmacist, Pharmacy Tech and RN staff involved with preparation of infusion/injection products.

Medication Management:

Work with COH Leadership, Nursing Leadership, physicians, pharmacists, and other department managers and key committees to promote safe and effective patient outcomes through advance clinical programs.

Personnel Management:

Attract, retain, and develop a quality Community Clinic Pharmacy Staff with appropriate feedback and evaluation.

Serve as a role model and change-agent for new strategies and initiatives.

Investigational Drug Services Management:

Work with IDS on Duarte campus, COH Leadership, Practice and Nursing Leadership, physicians, and pharmacists to promote safe and effective use of investigational drugs that meet regulatory standards. Improve investigational drug processes. Promote research collaborations with Physicians, and Research Staff.

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm D.)

    Minimum Experience:

  • 3 (Three) years in pharmacy including Clinic experience and leading/supervisory capacity.

    Required Certification/License:

  • Current California Pharmacist License

Preferred Certification/License:

  • ASHP Accredited PGY-1 Residency

  • BCPS and/or BCOP

    Additional Information:

  • To protect the health of patients and staff and to comply with new State of California mandates, City of Hope staff are required to show proof of full vaccination by September 30, 2021. Compliance is a condition of employment.
