The VP, Pharmacy Business Operations provides leadership and direction for the strategic, operational, financial, and administrative functions associated with Beth Israel Lahey Health Pharmacy Inc. services. The VP, Pharmacy Business Operations initiates the administration and ensures the quality of pharmacy services at BILH Pharmacy Inc.

As a member of the executive leadership team, the VP, Pharmacy Business Operations is involved in a range of innovation, strategic planning, and program initiatives for all pharmacy services. S/he will work closely with executive leadership colleagues to evaluate best industry practices and internal systems, with an eye toward both future needs and budgetary considerations.

The VP, Pharmacy Business Operations will support pharmacy programs, with a focus on sustainability, growth, quality patient care, and responsible oversite of pharmacy-related business strategy and initiatives. The person in this position will integrate the BILH Pharmacy, Inc., with all aspects of pharmacy business operations throughout Beth Israel Lahey Health.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Establish an integrated ambulatory pharmacy program across Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) which delivers on our organizational objectives of service, outcomes, cost, and people.

  • Plan, organize, evaluates, and manages all activities related to the ambulatory pharmacy across BILH

  • Provides executive leadership in the development of pharmacy vision and strategy across BILH. This includes the establishment of organizationally aligned performance goals, timelines, and outcome measures.

  • Responsible for prioritizing and adjusting the Beth Israel Lahey Health System (BILHS) pharmacy strategic plan and initiatives in response to organizational, regulatory, or market-driven imperatives. Directly accountable to execute the strategy consistently in all practice settings.

  • Expected to lead, serve, and participate in various committees at the leadership level.

  • Develop a pharmacy strategic plan around 340B and non-340B business lines

  • Collaborates with the senior leadership at all BILH entities to develop operating plans and to ensure that the pharmacy strategy, initiatives, and monitoring systems and tools are aligned with the organizational operating plan. Responsible for all financial targets and performance metrics in all pharmacy operations and services.

  • Develop strategies for the delivery of 340B, ambulatory, retail, specialty, and transitional care pharmacy operations and services across the healthcare delivery system. Responsible for all ambulatory, 340B, retail, specialty, and transitional care pharmacy targets, goals, and performance metrics.

  • Collaborates with finance to prepare annual pharmacy budgets. Monitors budgets for compliance direct investigation to variances, and approves expenditures. Oversees cost savings initiatives related to drug spend.

  • Develops retail formulary management and drug use initiatives to assure the appropriate use of pharmaceuticals. Responsible for the execution and consistent implementation of drug use initiatives and care management initiatives.

  • Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure the consistent implementation of prescription drug benefits in all pharmacy operations and services.

  • Provides executive leadership to seek out, promote and facilitate the rapid adoption and assimilation of best practices and innovations in service, work methods, technology, and operational systems which improve pharmacy service, quality, and productivity while reducing cost and improving margin.

  • Has the responsibility to lead and support managers and directors in developing and improving operations to create optimal performance levels.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics or Pharmacy


  • 8 to 10 years related work experience required in strategy and/or business development

  • 5 to 8 years supervisory/management experience required

  • In-depth knowledge of the federal 340B program

  • Proven business development track record

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with finance, pharmacy, clinical leadership, Sr. hospital administration, and system leadership

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications. May produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Masters degree in related field, Six Sigma Certified
