The technician performs various technical and supportive tasks necessary to provide pharmacy services. The pharmacy technician works under supervision of the pharmacist, and focuses on accurate medication preparation following established policy and procedures set forth by the Pharmacy Department. They understand the role of the pharmacist in verification of all preparations prior to dispensing to the patient care areas. The technician meets the requirements of being “qualified pharmacy technician” as established by the State Board of Pharmacy, and holds a pharmacy technician certification from a State Board of Pharmacy accredited agency. The technician adheres to all regulations as established by the State Board of Pharmacy.
Department Specific Job Details:
REQUIRED: High school diploma or GED. Technician Certification from State Board of Pharmacy approved program and registration with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. PREFERRED: 2 years experience. Medical language, Math Skills, Computer Skills.
Effective August 18, 2018, any individual performing the duties of a pharmacy technician (trainee, registered or certified) as defined in section 4729:3-3 of the Ohio Administrative Code must hold a valid registration or have received an ‘Eligible to Work Notice’ issued by the Board.
All individuals who submitted application materials for registration by 8:00 am August 17, 2018, have been notified by the Board regarding their eligibility to work.
Any licensed Terminal Distributor of Dangerous Drugs, Responsible Person or Pharmacist who allows an individual to work as a pharmacy technician without a valid registration or notice is in violation of the Ohio Revised Code and is subject to disciplinary and criminal action. Such action is subject to fine and reporting to all states which the business or individual holds a license.
To verify a registration status online visit elicense.ohio.gov. A status of “Active” or a status of "In Review" and sub-status of "Conditional Approval" indicates the technician is eligible to continue working until notified by the Board.
