Sinai Health System Pharmacy Manager in Chicago, Illinois

As part of Sinai Health System, Holy Cross Hospital is a 160 bed community located on Chicago’s southwest side. Holy Cross Hospital offers an urban healthcare experience that enables its caregivers to benefit a population that is generally underserved. This role is an excellent leadership role with a great opportunity for constant professional growth. The Manager will join a dynamic service line that utilizes the latest technologies in the acute care setting including Omnicell Automated Dispensing Cabinets, DoseEdge, MedMined Surveillance, and Kit Check. The Pharmacy service line utilizes a robust clinical intervention process that includes highly-trained clinical pharmacy staff, a PGY2 Residency program and layered learning model with APPE & IPPE Students. The Pharmacy manager will be joining a stellar and high performing leadership team to assist with supervision and technical/operation direction to pharmacist and pharmacy technicians in the inpatient pharmacy setting.

The pharmacy department is well respected amongst all providers and departments. The manager will work alongside the System Pharmacy Director and Medication Safety Officer to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards regarding the provision of pharmaceutical services and pharmacy objectives, policies, and procedures. In addition, the Pharmacy Manager will work with the Pharmacy Leadership team to develop and implement strategic clinical and operational initiatives.

Develops and enforces policies and procedures that promote cost-effective, appropriate and safe medication use.

• Supervises medications storage and preparation areas throughout the health system.

• Ensures maintenance of an adequate medication supply. Ensures the integrity of the medication supply. Establishes operational and financial procedures for the procurement of medications, chemicals and biologicals.

• Assures adequate control and documentation of controlled substances. Ensures strict control and accountability for medications dispensed to patients.

• Directs the activities of, and provides professional and technical guidance to, pharmacy personnel. Provides staff training and performance evaluation review. Oversees pharmacy student rotations – IPPE & APPE.

• Produces pharmacist and technician schedule according to department needs. Manages departmental staffing.

• Ensures compliance with SHS policies and procedures that apply to pharmacy services. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.

• Develops and implements a strategic plan, in conjunction with the System Director of Pharmacy, for pharmacy operations that supports the mission and goals of the organization. Responsible for assisting the System Director of Pharmacy with departmental planning, goals and objectives that are consistent with the hospitals. Recommends new services and modifications to existing services to meet patient needs and provide additional sources of revenue

• Develops and implements pharmacy services in collaboration with associated departmental services.

• Develops, implements and maintains a program that improves the quality of pharmacy services and supports the performance improvement plan of the organization.

• Consistently demonstrates active listening skills in all communications with caregivers and vendors.

• Communicates the SHS mission, vision and values to pharmacy department employees and integrates with Departmental operations.

• Provides leadership to new program development, implementation and evaluation.

• Promotes a multi-disciplinary teamwork in order to meet the organization’s mission, vision and values.

• Ensures that the department is in compliance with Joint Commission requirements, hospital policies and procedures and federal and state laws. Ensure all safe utilization of drug supplies, handle inventory control, therapeutic interchange, regulatory compliance, narcotic control, TJC compliance, drug distribution, and medication safety.

• Demonstrates knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) through application of the principles in the departmental plan.

• Reviews and trends adverse drug reactions (ADR) reports and medication error reporting.

• Continuously assesses and improves the performance of care and services provided. Assists the System Director of Pharmacy in reviewing, evaluating and recommending modifications to annual operating budgets to provide adequate space and resources needed in the department.

• Ensures that the department operates within established revenue and expense parameters. Develops and implements cost reduction strategies to maintain costs within budget and to realize cost reduction opportunities

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduate of a college of Pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE). Doctor of Pharmacy preferred.

• At least 1 year of supervisor experience or advanced degree (MBA, MHA, MPA, MPH, MA, MS)

• Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Illinois.

• Completion of a Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY1) and HSPA Residency (PGY2); three (3) to five (5) years direct clinical pharmacy experience may substitute.

• BCPS certification expected within 24 months of hire
