The Brookdale Hospital & Medical Center INTERN, PHARMACY in Brooklyn, New York
The Pharmacy Intern is responsible for assisting Pharmacists in the safe distribution of medication and the provision of pharmaceutical care. Other duties involve inventory control and automated equipment support.
Prepares and labels medications in accordance with physician's orders/prescriptions: reviewed by a registered pharmacist prior to dispensing.
Maintains all equipment and systems used in the preparation and dispensation of medication.
Maintains pharmacy inventory assuring that the storeroom, fill stations and medication dispensing robot are adequately stocked with medication.
Prepares medication cassettes for robotic filling.
Refills code carts & emergency boxes accurately.
Delivers medication carts to the units in a timely accurate manner.
Compounds medications under the supervision and with the final check of a registered pharmacist.
Fills all LTC and Acute medication cassette manual pick lists.
Preparation of Sterile products using aseptic technique.
Cleans all workstations, counter tops, equipment, storage bins, storage areas and storage shelves as needed as directed.
All other duties as assigned.
- In the process of completing a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from an ACPE accredited college of pharmacy.
- None to five (5) years of satisfactory experience in the practice of Pharmacotherapy.
Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to work in surroundings with degree of dust, noise, etc. without undue discomfort.
Ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend and stretch.
Ability to read, write and interpret documents.
Ability to sit for long periods of time at desk to perform job functions.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers.
May be required to handle reasonably heavy weights across distances.
Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all Kingsbrook/Rutland policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work.
Other: Knowledge of all codes and demonstrate understanding.
- Licensed intern in the State of New York.
Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
Position will be required to stoop, bends, lifts, carry items weighing up to 25 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.
An individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, Blood borne pathogens, Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.), and Chemical hazards.
